Clare Rees works as an English teacher in Wokingham. She feels privileged to work with teenagers and loves that she gets to spend her days encouraging reading and writing skills in others. Originally starting out life as sample materials for students to critique, Jelly, her first novel, was shortlisted for the Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition.
Making Monsters with Clare Rees
The monster, or the antagonist, is the central focus of many novels. The monster may be a supernatural, physical horror, or it may merely be a human character whose behaviour is monstrous. Nevertheless, the antagonist is the lynchpin around which the action of the novel unfolds.
In this workshop participants will look at examples of monstrous characters, and will develop and write their own.
