Sapper Walter George Albert Garnett
Walter Garnett signed up in 1916 and at age 17 must have lied about his age to the recruiting officer. He initially joined the Hampshire Regiment before transferring to the Royal Engineers. He was a sapper and part of his job was to venture out of the trenches between firing rounds to fix signal wire including going up telegraph poles.
He survived the War and his son, based in Wokingham, now holds his memories including this photograph and medals. These are part of a Private Collection and are not viewable by the public.
