Bust of Marianne

Description

In May 1998, the Town Council of Viry-Ch√Ętillon presented the Town Council of Wokingham with the bust of Marianne, who is a national emblem of the French Republic. She is a personification of Liberty and Reason and represents the triumph of the Republic. Marianne is displayed in many places in France and holds a place of honour in town hallsand law courts. Her profile is on the official seal of France, French euro coins and French postage stamps.

Inscription:
On the sculpture base it reads "1988 - 1998 10ans d'Amities Wokingham - Viry Chatillon Marianne (par Poisson 1933)" On the plinth it reads "Presented to Wokingham Town Council by Councillor P.N Harding Town Mayor 1998-1999"
