Frederick James Bourton
DescriptionFrederick was born in Croydon in 1891, the first child of Alfred and Ellen. He grew up in Waterloo Road, Wokingham and had four younger brothers. His father's occupation is described in the 1911 Census as “cowman on a farm”.
Frederick joined the Royal Navy and served aboard HMS Shark, a destroyer built in 1912 at Wallsend. He was killed in action when the ship was torpedoed in the Battle of Jutland at 7pm on the 31st May 1916. After the war his parents lived at the White Horse, Wokingham.
