James Bowyer

Description

James Bowyer was born in Wokingham in 1893, the only son of William and Rosa Bowyer who lived in Rose Cottages, Waterloo Road. According to the 1911 Census William's occupation was a “haybinder”. James had an older sister, Gertrude, and two younger sisters, Lily and Ada.

He joined the Devonshire Regiment at Caversham and served as a Private (no. 291642) in the 1st Battalion. He died of his wounds on the 8th November 1917. He is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, near the site of several military hospitals.
